Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to Present 34th Annual Fireworks Extravaganza on July 11

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation will once again light up the skies above the Thames River when it presents the 34th Annual Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

For more than four decades, the annual fireworks celebration in New London has been a cherished summer tradition in southeastern Connecticut. For the past 34 years, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has proudly sponsored the event as a gift to the community, bringing together residents and visitors for one of New England’s most anticipated summer celebrations.

The free event, held in partnership with Celebrate New London, will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display over the Thames River beginning at approximately 9:15 p.m. Recognized as Connecticut’s largest fireworks show, the extravaganza draws thousands of spectators to the waterfront each year and serves as the grand finale of a day filled with family-friendly activities, entertainment, dining and shopping throughout downtown New London.

“This annual celebration is one of the many ways we express our gratitude to the communities that have supported our Nation for generations,” said Rodney Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. “For 34 years, the Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza has brought people together to celebrate the beauty of our region and the strength of our communities. We are proud to continue this tradition and share this special evening with everyone who joins us on the New London waterfront.”

This year’s celebration carries added significance as communities across the nation commemorate America 250, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

“As we celebrate this milestone in our nation’s history, we also recognize the enduring presence, resilience and contributions of Indigenous peoples whose histories are deeply woven into the American story,” Butler said. “The Fireworks Extravaganza offers an opportunity to reflect on our shared past while celebrating the values of community, perseverance and opportunity that continue to unite us.”

Visitors to the region are also encouraged to explore the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, the largest tribally owned and operated museum of its kind in the world. Through immersive exhibits and interactive experiences, the museum tells the story of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and provides a deeper understanding of Native and early American history.

This year’s display will once again be produced by Santore Brothers and Garden State Fireworks, longtime partners known for creating one of the most spectacular fireworks shows in New England.

The fireworks display will be synchronized to music broadcast live on Big 100.9 FM, creating a unique audio-visual experience for spectators throughout the region.

The Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy the many activities and attractions offered as part of Celebrate New London.
