Government

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe is a federally recognized tribal government exercising sovereignty, self-determination and full authority over the 1635-acre Mashantucket (Western) Pequot Indian Reservation. Located in the beautiful wooded hills of Southeastern Connecticut, Mashantucket remains one of the longest continually occupied Indian reservations in North America.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe predates the State of Connecticut and the United States. As a sovereign government, we are much like a state within a state. Our relationship with the State of Connecticut is an equal, government-to-government relationship, similar to that which Connecticut shares with Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York.
Dedicated to our future generations inheriting clean beautiful land, a safe community and a strong economy, we remain committed to promoting spirituality, strong family values, education, social stability, economic independence, and the wellbeing of our Tribal Members, employees and guests in a healthy and supportive environment. Our ultimate goal is to protect and advance our sovereign rights in order to build and preserve a cultural, social and economic foundation that can never be undermined or destroyed.
