Police Department

The mission of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department, with the incumbent resources of the Tribal Security and Dispatch Departments, is to maintain peace and provide protection and safety for all persons and property within the geographical boundaries of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation held in trust by the United States Government.

The Department accomplishes its mission by suppressing criminal activity within the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation and maintaining peace and harmony through the vigilant enforcement of all applicable federal, state, and tribal laws and ordinances as well as adherence to the Tribe’s government-to-government agreements, including Memorandums of Understanding and Gaming Compacts.

The men and women of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department, as well as those of the Tribal Security and Dispatch Departments, bear true faith allegiance to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the trust and confidence given us.

Chief Robert J. Catania was sworn in as the Chief of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Police Department on October 9, 2024.

Chief Catania is a law enforcement professional with over 35 years of dedicated police service to Connecticut’s Capital Region, Connecticut’s University System, and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

Chief Catania places a strong emphasis on Tribal Community Relations, Public Safety, and believes in building strong bonds with our community, law enforcement, and governmental partners. He has held leadership positions in each of the agencies he has been part of and is honored to serve as your Chief of Police.

Chief Catania holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
