The Mashantucket Pequot Fire Department was established December 5, 1985. The fire department provides fire protection, prevention, and suppression rescue services for the Tribal Nation and its enterprises. The Department also provides voluntary preventative services to the Mashantucket community to inform and recommend various safety and security upgrades and improvements.

Anthony Saccone Sr. is the Fire Chief for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation (MPTN) as of May 5, 2025. Chief Saccone is an accomplished fire service leader with over 40 years of expertise in firefighting, emergency management, and fire prevention, bringing a wealth of experience, professionalism, and dedication to his role.
Prior to being appointed Chief, Saccone served as the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s Deputy Fire Chief/Fire Marshal for three years, during which time he managed the daily operations of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Fire Department while serving as incident commander, when necessary. He instructed fire captains and firefighters as the department training officer, utilizing the latest emergency services response technology to enhance team preparedness and effectiveness.
As Fire Chief, he is responsible for leading and overseeing the planning, organization, and coordination of the Fire Department’s personnel and operations—including training and development, emergency medical services, dispatch, and rescue services.
Prior to his service at Mashantucket, Chief Saccone served as a former Fire Chief for the Gales Ferry Fire Company, and Fire Captain of the U.S. Naval Submarine Base Fire Department.
Chief Saccone holds multiple national certifications, including Fire Officer IV, Fire Service Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, and Hazardous Materials Technician. Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in Connecticut with extensive experience in emergency planning and incident command. He is also a retired Captain from the Groton Submarine Base Fire Department and a retired Chief of the Gales Ferry Fire Company. A U.S. Navy Veteran, Chief Saccone and his wife of 37 years, Noreen, have resided in Ledyard for 35 years and raised four children together.
Chief Saccone’s appointment marks a new chapter in the continued advancement of the Tribe’s public safety infrastructure. His commitment to excellence and community-focused leadership ensures that the Fire Department remains prepared, responsive, and aligned with the highest standards of service. The Mashantucket Pequot Fire Department is a department of the MPTN Government Administration.
