Recognition reflects the department’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and public safety
MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation proudly announces that the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department has successfully achieved accreditation through the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST-C), marking a major milestone in the department’s continued dedication to excellence in public safety and community service.
Accreditation through POST-C reflects a department’s commitment to professional excellence, accountability, policy compliance, officer training, and best practices in modern policing. Following an extensive review by the POST Accreditation Division, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department was found to be in full compliance with the State of Connecticut’s Tier II and Tier III accreditation standards, demonstrating adherence to rigorous professional standards and best practices recognized throughout the state.
A formal recognition ceremony was held on May 14, 2026, at the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Academy in Meriden.
“Recognition by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council is a proud milestone for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and a reflection of the professionalism, discipline, and integrity demonstrated every day by the men and women of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department,” said Rodney Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. “This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of Chief Robert J. Catania and every member of the department, while reinforcing our commitment to public safety, accountability, and service to our Tribal Community.”
“Achieving POST-C accreditation is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the professionalism and leadership of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department,” said Merrill Reels, Treasurer of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Chairman of the Tribal Nation’s Public Safety Committee. “This recognition reflects the department’s focus on accountability, training, and providing the highest level of service and protection to our community.”
